HISTORY

Built in 1913, this building was originally named the Hotel Stowell after its builder, N.W. Stowell, a capitalist and financier. Most commonly recognized as the El Dorado Hotel, where Charlie Chaplin once lived, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The ground floor boasts what is thought to be the largest area of intact Batchelder tile in the world.
